Nowadays, because of faster means of transport, your goods may arrive in port before the shipping documents have been processed through the banking system. When the goods are unloaded from the ship or plane, they can be stored in a free warehouse for a few days, but after which, expensive storage fees (demurrage charges) will be charged until the day of collection.

Do you want to avoid the costs and lost opportunities of waiting for the documents? HSBC can issue a shipping guarantee to the shipping company, undertaking to forward the title documents (eg. Bills of Lading) when they are received. This allows you to take immediate control of the goods without the transport documents.

Shipping guarantees are usually applicable under import DC taking the goods transactions, allowing prompt clearance of goods ahead of documents arrival. However by taking the goods, protection against discrepant documents will be lost.

Under normal circumstances, 100% cash margin against the value of the goods will be required if you do not have Import Cash facility.
