Deposits at Post Offices

You can now use the Post Office network to make payments to your Credit Cards, Savings, and Current accounts. This service was initially launched in all major Post Offices around the country and now up to 156 Post Offices are available island-wide for your convenience. We are looking at expanding this network in due course.

  • Credit Card Payments.
  • Cash deposits to your Current or Savings Account (in LKR).
  • Using the Credit Card to pay for purchases.

 

How do I make a Payment / Deposit ?

  • Call over at any one of the designated post offices (Note – The card / account holder need not be present. Third parties can also make payments).
  • Hand over the cash along with your credit / ATM card to the counter (Note – If the deposits is made by a third party, you could simply provide the account / credit card number to the post office).
  • The post office staff will now make the deposit and provide you with a confirmation receipt (as shown below).

 

Is there a Charge to deposit cash via the Post office ?

  • A service fee of LKR26/- will be charged for payments to your credit card.

 

What are the Cut off times for Deposits / Payments made via the Post office ?

All Payments / Deposits made before 3:00 p.m. will be credited on the same working day. All other payments / deposits will only be credited on the next working day.

 

Is there a limit for Deposits / Payments ?

  • The minimum payment / deposit amount is LKR100/- and the maximum is LKR30,000/- per transaction.

 

How do I know my payment / deposit has been processed ?

You will receive an automated receipt (as shown below) as proof of payment / deposit. This receipt will be signed by the Post Office counter staff as acknowledgement of receipt of cash.

 

Do I need to go in person to make a payment / deposit ?

No. Anyone can make a payment / deposit to your account / credit card. All that is required is the correct card / account number.

Do I need to take my Credit Card / ATM card when I visit the Post Office ?

No. All you need to know is your credit / account number to make a deposit / payment. However, if you have your ATM / Credit Card, the process will be much simpler and will eliminate any errors in the account / card number as the Post Office will swipe your card on the machine to capture your account / card number.

 

Will the Post Office issue a manual receipt if the deposit machine is out of service ?

  • No. Under no circumstance will you be issued with a manual receipt. You will always receive an automated receipt (as shown below), which is generated from the machine.

 

What is the difference between payments made at Cargills, Commercial Bank etc. ?

The process you follow when making payments to your Credit Card is similar to what is done at our existing alliances. The added advantage is that you can make deposits to your Savings and Current account using the Post Office Network.

In to which type of accounts can I deposit cheques ?

  • Cheque deposits to your HSBC Current or HSBC Savings Accounts (in LKR)
  • Credit Card Payments.

 

Can I use any bank's cheque at the post office network ?

  • Yes. You can deposit a cheque of any bank in Sri Lanka to a HSBC Account.

 

How do I make a Cheque Deposit ?

  • Call over at any one of the designated post offices (Note – The card / account holder need not be present. Third parties can also make cheque deposits).
  • Fill out the deposit slip which will be at the counter of the post office and Hand over the cheque and the deposit slip along with your credit / ATM card to the counter (Note – If the deposits is made by a third party, you could simply provide the account / credit card number to the post office).
  • The post office staff will now make the deposit and provide you with a confirmation receipt.

 

Is there a Charge to deposit cheques via the Post office ?

What is the proof I have for the deposit ?

  • You will receive an automated receipt as proof of payment / deposit. This receipt will be signed by the Post Office counter staff as acknowledgement of receipt of cash. This receipt will contain the following.
    -Card/Account number.
    -Cheque number and the respective amount.
    -Reference number.
    -Post Office code.
    -Date/Time of transaction.
    -Cashier's signature.
